Racial Diversity

One of the things that I most enjoy about the San Francisco Bay area is the racial diversity. You can see people, dress, and food from every corner of the world in nearly any community around here and it’s quite a contrast from the White-Bud-Drinking-Redneck-in-a Ford-F-250-4X4 that is so ubiquitous here around San Luis Obispo county. Last week in Berkely we saw a Himalayan and a Tibetan restaurant in the same block, again a contrast to the Pizza & Burgers of the Central Coast.

This morning as I left Starbucks I overheard 3 Chinese or Vietnamese or maybe Cambodian guys talking. To my white ears all I could hear was tie dow long chi die wong ta OOHHH! HOT MOCHA!

I don’t speak a single word of any Asian language that doesn’t pertain to food but I heard the hot mocha, in perfect English.
