New Controls

We finally finished installing new (to us) engine control handles in the cockpit today. I thought it would be a couple of hours but it was a couple of days. The work perfectly but I’m tired of rebuilding systems that allegedly were “fine” before we bought the boat.

I expected 3-4 weeks of work here but it’s been 10. We have to replace all of the chain plates before we can re-step the mast. They were “fine” too except for all of the tiny cracks in them under the sealant that we couldn’t see until the last minute. It should take a day to replace them so it’s likely to be a week.

I’m dirty and cold and tired.

I want to leave the San Francisco Bay area in the worst way. Everybody on the road is a complete moron. Stuff that should be 5 bucks costs 8. It’s cold every day. Not all day every day but you will need a jacket every single day unless you’re from Canada. I’m not from Canada.

Typical thing you see on the road here. Car in front of you, right lane, right turn signals on. Is it safe to assume that they’ll be turning right?

HELL NO!

They pull a left turn right in front of you.

Another daily occurrance. You’re pulling on to the freeway. The person in front of you is going about 60 and the traffic to their left is going about 60. There is room for them to move over to their left between the other cars. Is it safe to assume that they will?

HELL NO!

Instead they will slam on the brakes and swerve into the emergency lane and then swerve back out in front of you, now going about 25. Then they will abruptly jut out into the right traffic lane forcing the 400 cars behind them to slam on their brakes as well and now every body on the freeway can only go 25 but there’s no room for you to merge anymore because the cars are all jammed together now. Nice job, moron, you just caused a traffic jam all by yourself.

I swear all of these people drive like all of the windows in their cars are painted solid black except for one little hole in the windshield.

I want to go south.

This place sucks.

I get it. You’re frustrated. Your accounts of SF drivers seem VERY similar to LA. The windows painted black is funny. I just assumed everyone had a seeing-eye dog behind the wheel…& the damn dog was texting.
You have enough time to get south before the weather comes. (Today would be a bad day). Monsoonal storm with lightning & (not yet) rain…radar shows ugly high-intensity rainfall cells 20 miles out to sea.
You’ll make it. Maybe you should winter in Catalina? Warmer (don’t throw away jackets), fish everywhere, & probably some folks who need a little work done on their boats. Hang in dude.
