Work so I can go work

After working all last week and all weekend, we’re finally preparing to go to the boat so we can, you guessed it! Work. If you want to do something big like a circumnavigation you’ll need to work pretty hard at some point. Sailing around the world is harder than something like watching TV and ordering a pizza.

We’ll be painting bilges in preparation for the engine installation and sealing stanchion bases and the windlass base. We plan to install a small car stereo amplifier and speakers so we can plug in an MP3 player as well. Our Perkins 4.108 is coming along in fits and starts. The engine resealing is almost done. The rear main seal housing threads stripped out as we were torquing it down so I had to buy another one and wait two days for it to arrive from Los Angeles, so that slowed us down a bit. It’s OK though, we hadn’t planned to fit the engine this trip anyway.

I’ve sent the fuel injection pump to Oregon for a rebuild and it’s not back yet but it is easy to install with the old Perkins in the boat. The Oregon diesel tractor guys prices are a whole lot better than the Bay Area Marine diesel guys. After this trip we’ll have Nelson’s marine paint the bottom and next time we can set the engine in.4.108 019 Large Work so I can go work
We look forward to splashing the boat soon.
