We’ve been gone from here for seven months.
I assumed, since I am imperfect, that my perception of life on the Central Coast might be askew and that with a new perspective my opinion might change. As it turns out I was wrong in thinking that I might be wrong. (Do two wrongs make me right?)
We had some business to attend to earlier this week. We had to mail a notarized form to our mail forwarding center and make a doctor’s appointment. No big deal, right?
We tromp on up to the post office for the form and the nice lady there says NO, that form doesn’t exist. Well, out came the trusy iPad, here it is, form #12345. The lady insistedthat the form probably didn’t actually exist because the chick in the back knew ALL of the forms, but she agreed to try. Like magic she came back, form in hand.
We strutted triumphantly across the street to the notary’s office.
She was available to notarize our form right then, no problem, but, but, NO.
We didn’t have exactly the right two forms of ID it seemed, so we had to walk all the way back down to the boat for our passports and all the way back up to her office. When we returned with the passports she had bad news. Sorry, but NO. The instructions were a tiny little bit too ambiguous, so NO.
A handy little iPad moment later and we had the complete instructions that were, as it turned out, not ambiguous at all. OK, duress included, and it was suddenly possible to complete a simple task.
After the Post Office strangely WAS able to accept our outgoing letter we trooped and strutted on over to the Dr’s office.
Good morning. I’d like to make an appointment.
…
…
NO!
You can’t make an appointment. NOT until we get your records from the other office.
Well, I’ve been waiting a week for you to give the pharmacy a refill OK and now I’m out of medicine.
NO, sorry, but it just isn’t possible at all to make an appointment without the records, NOT on any planet, NOT in any universe.
Please?
Fortunately another more reasonable lady overheard and insisted that in fact it IS possible to make an appointment without all of my records and that it really isn’t any big deal just for blood pressure medicine that I’ve been taking for FIFTEEN YEARS.
Wow, that was an awful lot of trouble for no real reason. Why do so many people here want to prevent ANYTHING from happening?
Hi gang–thank God for your new I Pad. I’m assuming human intercourse (not that kind) isn’t always this difficult (well, that kind is too). If in fact it’s peculiar to this area, it must be blamed on the water (fresh). // Hey, it was great seeing you last week. My only regret was not getting the large portion of calamari. We’ll get together soon, yes? I had to order a new cell phone–I think the new AT&T tower above my house is now officially 3G, Yay! Which means I can now get (Tamiko’s) well-planned web site up & running! I’ll call you soon, or vice versa. Paul BTW, extremely cool pic from your front window.
Now that we’re in Mexico I can walk in to any pharmacy and get whatever I need instantly. For under twenty bucks. For a 3 month supply.
