I should have posted this 2 weeks ago but we didn’t have wifi good enough to load pictures;
We made it safely into Half Moon Bay , it was not a very nice sail at all. A big confused sea and a bad wind direction in relation to the swell meant that we had to steer and steer like crazy all day to keep the boat on course and we rolled side to side the whole time. It’s a very long way from the Golden Gate bridge until you’re truly out of the harbor entrance and the currents and eddies are insane. At one point Tamiko was sawing at the wheel two turns one way and then two turns the other just to try to keep the boat going straight and this was when we were still inside of the harbor.
Two of us became sea sick but out of respect for my wife and son I’m not telling which two, but neither was the dog. We made port at sunset and Half Moon Bay is nice. Nice like Alaska. We’d heard that it was difficult to enter but we really had no problem at all. It’s a lot easier than backing somebody else’s $100,000.00 car in between two other $100,000.00 cars with a few inches to spare.
The boat held up well, no boat parts broke but there was stuff all over the floor when we arrived here.
All day long today we’ve had various people approaching us saying HEY! YOU’RE THE PEOPLE THAT ARE IN THE LATITUDE 38!
One nice woman deserves a special mention, Jenny. She was so excited, so excited to meet us. She got all silly like we’re celebrities or something. She said that she couldn’t believe that we were really here and it was her lucky day and nice things like that. She invited us over to her boat for lunch and she made us the most delicious Vietnamese sandwiches. It was an entirely pleasant afternoon and so kind of her to have us over.
Tomorrow we’ll sail out for Monterey, I sure hope the conditions are nicer than yesterday, we’ll see.
