we all scream 416x276 How to Make Ice Cream at AnchorFirst, buy two 190 watt solar panels and 4 golf cart batteries, plus a Magnum 2000 watt inverter and a sub-panel for your outlets. Install all that stuff. Now go buy another 190 watt panel, two more 6V batteries, a Blue Sky charge controller and some big 2/0 wire and install it as well.

Next you should procure a portable ice maker; I got a refurbished Igloo one for $95.00 on ebay with free shipping. That’s OK, because it will take you a week to install the electrical stuff, so the shipping time won’t matter. You’ll also need an ice cream ball, a pint of cream, some sugar, and some vanilla. We got ours at REI for $25. The ice cream ball–REI doesn’t sell that other stuff. Oh, and rock salt.

Now just follow the directions on the ice cream ball and about three hours after you started the ice maker you’ll find that you have the world’s finest fresh home made ice cream. Probably the world’s most expensive, too.

My wife would like to point out that storing ice cream on board isn’t practical, since our freezer is Chihuahua sized. So, painful as it is, we’ll have to pull together and eat all of it up tonight. Eli volunteered to throw himself on the grenade for the good of the crew and just down it all himself, which says a lot about how good the ice cream turned out. He usually isn’t big on sweets.

Actually,he just corrected me. He likes sweets–he’s just not stupid about them.1 DSC 0003 001 How to Make Ice Cream at Anchor

Classic!! I will never ever buy Safeway’s cheapo ice-cream again! I’m scouring the web to make my purchases asap.
Hey Eli–looks like you’re doing a pretty good job of disposing of it…good man! You obviously have the sheer grit it takes to be a sailor.
