UPDATE: S/V BEACH FLEA REACHED!

beachflea 2 UPDATE: S/V BEACH FLEA REACHED!

S/V Beach Flea…a 1977 Gulfstar 50, Hull #84. I do not envy their engine room. I do not envy their engine room. I do not envy…aw heck…it is a thing of beauty.

**NEW UPDATE**

S/V Beach Flea is going to be fine. Through a combination of SSB networks, Iridium Sat phones, email, and lots of volunteers–Beach Flea has the information they need to carry on, and carry on they will.

We’d like to thank all of you and if anyone gets left out, apologies…it’s been a little hectic:

S/V Ceildyh:  (Evan, Diane, & Maia)–for offering invaluable communication support. They just finished their circumnavigation and are transitioning back to life on land, as Maia works on finishing up High School. Anyone interested in a 40′ Cat should check out Ceildyh’s 4 Sale page.

S/V Tiger Beetle: (Greg, who coincidentally sold us his old Perkins, 4 years ago)–for graciously letting us invade his boat and relay information via SSB. Wish him luck as he gets ready to Puddle Jump, himself.

S/V Nereida: (Jeanne Socrates) –a rockstar solo female circumnavigator and Guinness Book World Record-holder, who helped with comms and support.

Everyone on the FaceBook forums…you were awesome and, while we couldn’t get back to you all, your input and dedication to spreading the word was incredible.

Finally, thanks to my husband, Steve, for being the best mechanical diagnostician I’ve ever known. You are amazing.

Now we’re going to catch some rack time. And work. Because, you know…no rest for the wicked 😉

**UPDATE**

WE HAVE NET CONTROLLERS STANDING BY TO RELAY INFO BACK TO LA CRUZ. HAVE CONFIRMATION S/V BEACH FLEA DOES HAVE A SAT PHONE. THEY HAVE OUR NUMBER; WE DON’T HAVE THEIRS. THEY MAY BE HAVING PROBLEMS USING THEIR PHONE.

AS FAR AS WE KNOW, LAST KNOWN CONTACT WITH S/V BEACH FLEA WAS WHEN THEY POSTED, ASKING FOR OUR HELP, VIA S/V TERRAPIN’S BLOG. TERRAPIN POSTED VIA SSB. WE ASSUME, BASED ON PROBABLE LACK OF POWER ON S/V BEACH FLEA, TERRAPIN WAS WITHIN VHF RANGE AT THE TIME.

ANYONE WITH THE SPREADSHEET CONTAINING INFO ABOUT THIS YEAR’S PUDDLE JUMPERS FROM LA CRUZ, PLEASE GET IT TO US, ASAP. WE HAVE A SAT PHONE HERE, IN LA CRUZ, AVAILABLE TO USE (THANK YOU, SELKIRK FAMILY).

WE ALSO KNOW THAT, AS OF LAST NIGHT’S NET, S/V BEACH FLEA DID NOT CHECK IN THEIR LOCATION.

HOPE TO HAVE MORE INFO AFTER TONIGHT’S NET. THANK YOU EVERYONE, FOR PITCHING IN.

S/V BEACH FLEA IS TRYING TO REACH ME FROM ~1000 MILES OUT IN THE PACIFIC. THEY NEED MECHANICAL ADVICE. WHO HAS GOOD HF RADIO RECEPTION WHO CAN REACH THEM AND RELAY TO ME BY TELEPHONE???
